Ο Γιάννης Ρίτσος ήταν ένας από τους σπουδαιότερους Έλληνες ποιητές με διεθνή φήμη και ακτινοβολία. Δημοσίευσε πάνω από εκατό ποιητικές συλλογές και συνθέσεις, είκοσι δύο μυθιστορήματα, ένα θεατρικό έργο και μελέτες. Τα έργα του συμπληρώνουν πολλές μεταφράσεις, χρονογραφήματα και άλλα δημοσιεύματα. Με το ζευγάρι Παιονίδη υπήρξαν πολύ στενοί φίλοι και τον φιλοξένησαν τόσο στο σπίτι τους στη Λεμεσό όσο και στο εξοχικό τους στη Βάσα.
