Υπήρξε κορυφαίος ποιητής της Κύπρου της πρώτης μεταπολεμικής Γενιάς ή «Γενιάς του ’60».Στη λογοτεχνία πρωτοεμφανίστηκε το 1952 από τις σελίδες του περιοδικού «Κυπριακά Γράμματα». Δύο χρόνια αργότερα τιμήθηκε με το πρώτο βραβείο του ποιητικού διαγωνισμού του περιοδικού «Κυπριακά Γράμματα» για το ποίημά του «Δοκιμασία Ονείρων».
Όπως υπογραμμίζεται σχετικά, η διαμόρφωσή του ως ποιητή συντελείται μέσω του διαλόγου του με την ποίηση του Γιώργου Σεφέρη και του Τ. Σ. Έλιοτ. Το έργο του, πέρα από τη δημιουργική αφομοίωση της ποιητικής του μοντερνισμού, άνοιξε το δρόμο για νέες εκφραστικές επιλογές στους Κύπριους ποιητές.
