Η Φαίδρα Ζαμπαθά-Παγουλάτου γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα, κόρη του λογοτέχνη Κούλη Ζαμπαθά.
Σπούδασε Γαλλική και Ιταλική λογοτεχνία. Ξεκίνησε στα Γράμματα τη δεκαετία του '60.
Το πρώτο της ποιητικό βιβλίο κυκλοφόρησε στα 1962, με τίτλο «Σταγόνες από φως». Από τότε ακολούθησαν τρία δοκίμια, δυο πεζά, και δεκαοκτώ ποιητικές συλλογές καθώς και μεταφράσεις, όπως των: «Ντιντερό, Χομπσμπάουντ, Ζάλλερ, Λεοπάρντι. Επίσης Γάλλων ποιητών.
